Abstract:

The aim of this study is to analysis the performance of Robinia pseudoascacia (black locust tree) to accumulation some of heavy metals and compared with the concentration of these metals in falling dust Yazd highway green belt. In order to an experiment was conducted as factorial based on completely randomized design with four replications. The results showed that the concentration of, iron, manganese, zinc, lead and cadmium metals in falling dust were the highest to the lowest, respectively. The distance from the highway in the concentration of heavy metals in leaves and bark of the black locust tree showed significant results (P< 0.01). Also, the effect of heavy metals in the leaves of this tree was higher than that of bark. Concentrations of manganese, cobalt, nickel and cadmium metals increased with increasing distance from the highway due to multi-directional winds and the presence of other contaminants. The Pearson correlation analysis between heavy metals found in the falling dust and Robinia Pseudoascacia showed that the input and controlling factors of these metals in the black locust tree are probably the same as the dust. The results showed that the leavesof Robinia Pseudoascacia with the amount of metal accumulation index of 4438 mg/kg has more ability to simultaneously absorb different metals. As a result, since this green belt surrounds Yazd urban area, it is hoped that a significant amount of heavy metals will be absorbed by these trees.

Assessment of heavy metals in Cypress (Thuja orientalis L.) in the Yazd Highway green belt

Dust storm is one of the criteria for air pollution, and pollution by Heavy Metal(HM) is one of the major environmental problems in the world. The objective of the present study was to assess some of HMs concentrations in the leaves and bark of cypress and atmospheric falling dust along the Yazd highway, Yazd Province, Iran. The total concentrations of cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), ni...

Health risk assessment of heavy metals in roadside soil along the Hemmat Highway of Tehran, Iran, in 2014

Background: The present study investigated the impact of land use on health risks (cancerous and non-cancerous) of heavy metals in soil along the Hemmat Highway of Tehran, Iran. Materials and Methods: A total of 28 soil samples were collected in August 2014 from the roadside soil of the Hemmat Highway. The collected samples were air-dried and digested, and then, analyzed for heavy metals usi...

Spatiotemporal assessment of some heavy metals in the Anzali International Wetland during 2007-2014

Background: Todays, water resources are affected by various factors such as organic materials, pathogens (bacterial and microbial agents), and minerals (including heavy metals). For this reason, continuously examining the spatiotemporal changes in environmental pollutants is one of the most critical components of water quality studies.      Methods: The sampling of some heavy metals (Ni, Cd, Z...

Diversification Factors of Cultivators/Investors of Robinia pseudoacacia (Black locust)

In an effort to minimize environmental degradation caused by the intensive use of agrochemicals, European Union adopted regulations relevant to afforestation and set aside of agricultural land. The multifunctional role of agriculture enhanced through these regulations and provided adequate motives for a change in the conventional land uses. Cultivators/investors that are interested in afforeste...

Ecological Risk Assessment of Some Heavy Metals in the Dust Emitted from Non-Metallic Industries of Ardakan County of Yazd in Summer 2018: A Descriptive Study

Background and Objectives: Implementation of industrial development programs, without considering environmental considerations has caused continuous entrance of pollutants to air. Therefore, the purpose of this study was assessing the ecological risk of some heavy metals in the dust of a number of non-metallic industries and determining the best indices in pollution assessment of Ardakan area. ...
